![]() ![]() ![]() Inspired by a growing consciousness of lesbian identity cultural feminism borrows from it such ideas as female connectedness, women-centered relationships and cultures. In the novel, Gilman also suggests the destruction of deeply-seated cultural norms and representations of the ‘feminine’ and the ‘masculine’ through which women (and men) can be liberated. The utopian women-only fictional world created by Gilman makes a stress on the idea of ‘sisterhood’ and thus a shared women’s culture, and presents a peaceful atmosphere to live in, free from the patriarchy, and proposes a radical way of living with its alternative women-only society, all of which are also emphasized by cultural feminism. This study focuses on a cultural feminist analysis of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s utopian novel Herland. ![]()
